A Rousing Finale to the Autumn Term!
Our young performers brought the autumn term to a suitably festive finish, giving concerts in Llanrwst, Conwy, Colwyn Bay and even busking in Llandudno!
Our three Music Centre concerts were full of Christmas spirit – even Santa Claus called at Llanrwst; performances from all sorts of groups raised the spirits of the audiences in preparation for the festive season.
Each concert has its own unique character and sense of place – we had a lovely mix of solos and group performances at Aberconwy, and welcomed a group of singers who came together from three different schools for the event, their smiles and energy lit up the whole evening which was rounded off by the ever enthusiastic Junior Orchestra.St Paul’s is an altogether more calm evening and there were polished performances from the County Woodwind and String Ensembles as well as some lively jazz from the Big Band and the usual finale from the Youth Orchestra, who were on excellent form. We were also treated to a young singer who surprised us all – Fu Lian Doblé, who played the trumpet in both Junior and Youth Orchestras for many years gave us a truly lovely performance of Pie Jesu. Councillors Liz Roberts and Wyn Jones attended the evening and Councillor Liz gave a very supportive vote of thanks at the end of the evening.
Llanrwst is a different world again; we had the annual “best dressed Christmas stand” competition, action music from the band, lots of solos, six harps from Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy and a brass group from Cerrigydrudion – showing just how far the participation in music service activities reaches throughout the county. It was a charming and delightful evening and well done to all those who took part!
Our term has been rounded off by Wind Ensemble and String Group members busking in the Victoria Arcade in Llandudno to raise funds for the “Friends of Conwy Youth Music” – the dedicated group of people who support activities in many ways, from ticket selling to raising funds to provide bursaries for young people in the County. Many thanks to the staff in the centre for their encouragement and support! It was a lovely way to round up what was a very successful term of music making! -

Imagining Blodwen
Posted: 13 Nov, 2015
Pupils from Ysgol Ffordd Dyffryn enjoying a workshop in Llandudno Museum with storyteller Fiona Collins. They are ‘Imagining Blodwen’ inspired by the real Neolithic skeleton found on the Little Orme and a handling collection of intriguing replica objects from pre-history. A second workshop session with artist Eleri Jones will follow next week.
Five Conwy schools are participating in the project through a partnership between the Expressive Arts Service, the Museums Service and Llandudno Museum, supported by Literature Wales. -
Creative Dance Festival, 18th November in Llanrwst
Posted: 11 Nov, 2015
This year’s festival will welcome more schools than ever before. 250 pupils from 10 local schools will show and share the dances they’ve made this term ranging from the youngest in Nursery through to aspiring young dancer Angharad Jones Young from year 11 in Dyffryn Conwy.
Each class creates an original piece of dance with their teacher and our favourite dance artist Emma-Jane Sutcliffe.
Professional guest company is Little Light Dance and Digital Theatre who will perform Out of the Bag exploring the wonderful creative possibilities that can be discovered in a bag of old clothes….folding, unfolding … inside out….upside down… a fast, fun-filled duet combining contemporary dance & acrobatics.
There’ll be excitement, drama, humour, skills and a whole variety of dances – all in a great atmosphere. Such fun! -
